Sugar-Free Sausage

In an effort to eliminate sugar from my diet, I found it extremely difficult to find sugar-free sausage at the store.

How was I going to live a lifestyle without sausage?

Instead of giving up on sausage, I decided to make it at home with simple, natural ingredients.

Turns out, it tastes worlds better this way.

It doesn’t matter what meat you use for sausage because it all mixes well with the spice blends.

Why I Love My KitchenAid Food Grinder

This homemade sugar-free sausage is so simple a two-year old can do it!

The pictures on this post feature my two-year-old son grinding venison with our KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment.  I absolutely love this attachment, and here are three huge reasons why.

First, it helps keep our kitchen simple without a ton of appliances, gadgets and do-dads.

In this new day and age where you must have it all, it’s nice to go against the grain (pun intended) and focus on living more simply.

Secondly, and probably the most important reason we love our grinder, is that we no longer purchase ground meat from the store, which contains a number of unnatural, disgusting ingredients.

Seriously, the book, The Jungle, has completely changed the way I view ground meat.  For under five bucks on Amazon, it’s well worth the read.

Lastly, it keeps our food costs low.

We purchase larger cuts of meat, which are far less expensive, and grind it as needed.

Okay, enough about the grinder, moving on to more important things…like sausage.

  • 1 lb ground meat of choice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp herbs de provence
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Breakfast Sausage:

  • 1 tsp avocado oil (lean meat only)
  • 1 lb ground meat of choice
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp rosemary
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Spicy Chorizo Sausage:

  • 1 tsp avocado oil (lean meat only)
  • 1 lb ground meat of choice
  • 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

  1. If using lean ground meat, heat avocado oil in a medium flat bottom pan over medium heat.  Otherwise, just heat the dry pan.
  2. Add the meat and gently break it up in the pan.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients and continue mixing the sausage in the pan to ensure the seasonings are well disbursed.
  4. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked.
